September is the island’s quiet month
Across the US Virgin Islands, many independent restaurants scale back or close entirely during the slow season — most commonly for a stretch somewhere in late August through October, with September the most likely month to find doors shut for a chef’s break, staff vacation, or storm-season lull. Coral Bay and the smaller St John spots are especially prone to it.
Some places announce their dates ahead; many simply post it on social media a week out. If you’re traveling August through October, always confirm a restaurant is open before you make the drive — a quick call or a look at their current Instagram is the surest check. High season (roughly December through April) is when everything is reliably open.
Hours, days, and seasons change island-style — always call ahead to confirm. We keep this guide current as best we can, but the only source of truth is the restaurant itself. Listings here are our own recommendations; nothing on this page is sponsored or paid.
